4 Tips for Achieving a Balanced Life During the Coronavirus Pandemic

April 1, 2020

Most of us, at some point in time, feel like our life is on the blink. Why does that happen? Life is essentially a balancing act - an act of constantly juggling our personal lives, work, health, and even relationships. And when that balance is lost, we end up feeling broken. But with the novel coronavirus pandemic bringing about tumultuous changes in our work schedules and even social lives, trying to find that balance seems more difficult than ever. While some may struggle to work from home while also supporting their family through this crisis, others have to deal with the toll this pandemic may be taking on their mental health, thus compromising their ability to take care of other aspects of their lives. Either way, it is not easy for anyone. But amidst all of this, it is crucial that we try to maintain our overall well-being, and that is only possible if we strive for a balanced life. Here’s how you can do that:

1. Begin by reassessing the life you have now.

The first step in restructuring your life is evaluating the one you have now. Look at yourself and think. If you are working from home, do you feel like you are devoting more time than necessary to it? Do you feel mentally drained and physically exhausted all the time? While it is okay to be worried about yourself, your family and even your work during these times, you must ensure that your life does not get tipped to one side. Work-life balance is crucial, and you must learn how to set boundaries between your work and your family.

2. Sort out your priorities.

Once you know that you need to balance out your lives, you need to learn how to prioritize, because a balanced life cannot be achieved if you try to cram in everything you can. Do not think you can work throughout the day and then still make time for your family. Create a routine that divides your time in a healthy manner. Even if you are required to work, make sure that you are done by 5 or 6 in the evening, so that you can spend the rest of your time with yourself or your family. If you don’t have to work, use that time for doing something creative or restoring a lost passion, whether it is art, music or even cooking.

3. Take care of your physical health.

During uncertain times such as now, it can be very easy to lose a sense of control on your life. So, you must instead try to focus on those aspects that you can still control, and health is one of them. Health is that one aspect of life that directly or indirectly affects everything else, and now it is more important than ever to take care of it. Invest in your physical well-being. Avoid eating junk food. Eat fruits and vegetables that will boost your immunity. Stay hydrated. Try and get as much exercise as you can indoors. Sleep for an adequate amount of time.

4. Adopt a positive mindset.

We are all experiencing a difficult phase in our lives, trying to our best to ride out the health recommendations like social distancing and the constant handwashing, while striving to maintain a sense of normalcy. The only way to get through this is staying positive. But that does not mean that you ignore your worries. Instead, you must accept them and try to think of ways in which you can cope with them. Practice self-love and keep negative thoughts and influences away.
